[The Oberstein jewellery of the 1920s/1930s: Industrial design instead of Art Déco]

Jakob Bengel's jewellery from the early 1930s is an original contribution to early German industrial jewellery design. As part of the reform endeavours of the Deutscher Werkbund, the desire for a stylistic departure into modernity had become established in Oberstein.

In his lecture, Wilhelm Lindemann places the collection of the early 1930s in the context of the early German jewellery design of the 1920s and 1930s. Inspired by the reform ideas of the "Deutscher Werkbund", the jewellery industry sought a new, independent path in the design of its products, in contrast to the French and English competition.
