DEPOT - Art from the Jakob Bengel Foundation’s collection

We are delighted to invite you to the opening of the exhibition “DEPOT” as part of the “Idar-Oberstein schmückt sich” exhibition programme. The exhibition marks the 25th anniversary of the Jakob Bengel Foundation.

Art is not a luxury. It gives things meaning beyond their mere purpose. In applied art in particular, it creates depth: it poses questions, opens new perspectives and reveals what would otherwise remain invisible. Without this artistic perspective, design would remain merely functional – with it, it becomes part of culture. The Jakob Bengel Foundation collects works to bring this very understanding to life. DEPOT features works by Bernd Munsteiner, Milena Naef, Kyoko Taniyama and Anna and Wolfgang Kubach-Willmsen, complemented by works from the City of Idar-Oberstein’s Artist-in-Residence collection and contributions from the Foundation’s collaborators.

The opening will take place on Thursday, 21 May 2026, at 6:30 pm at Villa Bengel and via a livestream on the Jakob Bengel Foundation’s Instagram channel (jakobbengel), with welcoming speeches by Peter Wenzel, Thomas Petry and Prof. Eva-Maria Kollischan.
